ECF Grades

The new (2013) ECF grades have just been published. Just go to the ECF grading database at this link and find out your new grade.

Also, whilst I was browsing the ECF website I noticed that one of the benefits of being a member of the ECF is that all Bronze,Silver and Gold members have access to the online newsletter "Chess Moves" which is published every two months by the ECF

I am not sure how many members are aware of this, but it is well worth signing up as I have just recently signed up and it is very informative. Lots of news, details of tournaments, and games to go through. You also get access to all the back issues as well!

In fact this months issue has a good article on Nigel Short and how he fared at his latest tournament.Along with some of his games

Exciting New Chess Tournament! e2 e4

There is a Chess Tournament near Coventry. Just outside Hinckley. It is open to all with a top prize of at least £300.00! possibly more if there are more entrants.

It would be great to see some Coventry Chess members participating. Full details below and a website where you can download an entry form. If you have any questions about the tournament beforehand I am sure the organiser Sean Hewitt would not mind if you called him.

His email is below:-

Dear All, We are running a congress locally to you - e2e4 Coventry Congress which will be held at the Holiday Inn Coventry between 23-26 August 2013. Full details are available online at :

and I wondered if you could give the event a mention on your local league / county website?

If you have any questions, please let me know.

 To All Members:

Please find below details of the upcoming Chess Academy. For further details please contact the organiser Paul Lam.

Just as a side note:- I have had a few members ask me about private tuition and on the website there are details for private tuition run by Paul Lam. He is also very reasonable with his charges.

Dear Coventry and Warwickshire chess friends,

I hope you all are well. I thought I would share the latest news on the CCA with you. We now have a blog/website and a Facebook page which you are welcome to check out. These still need some work doing on them, but it's a start.  They can be found at:

It would be very helpful if you could circulate these links to anyone who might be interested. I believe a few of you run chess blogs/websites. If you could add the above links to these, it would also be appreciated.

Preparation for the launch on Saturday 20 July is going well and I continue to receive expressions of interest from parents and prospective volunteers. I have secured additional funding for the CCA from the John Robinson Youth Chess Trust; this is a great boost for us, but any extra would do no harm, so please get in touch if you have any other funding ideas or tips.

Many thanks for all the help and support you have provided so far.

Kind regards,
